Sub-Zero Repair Guides and Services

Small or Hollow Ice from a Sub-Zero Ice Maker

A change in cube shape or size is useful evidence. Compare several fresh batches rather than judging older ice that has partially melted or sublimated.

What to check first

  • Look at newly made cubes and photograph the shape.
  • Note a recent filter installation or plumbing change.
  • Check whether water dispensing has also weakened, if your model has a dispenser.

What the observations mean

Water delivery and operating conditions can affect ice formation, but cube appearance alone cannot establish a failed valve. Different Sub-Zero ice-making products also produce different shapes. Do not adjust a fill setting unless the model’s owner instructions explicitly provide for it.

Before you request service

Tell us whether every batch is affected, when the change began and whether the cubes are joined together. Keep the model number available so the expected ice type can be checked.

Have the full model number, your city and ZIP code ready. Describe when the issue began and whether it is constant or intermittent. Avoid removing appliance panels, handling wiring or opening refrigerant lines; those checks belong to a qualified technician.
